The Company

Special Edition Press, Inc., is a Filipino-owned multi-media company with business operations in publishing, graphics design studio and staged events presentation.

Situated in the midtown area of New York City, the company offers creative advertising services including graphics design, printing services and collateral materials production. Established in 1991, Special Edition Press, Inc. has expanded its business to offer diversified services to meet the requirements of its growing clientele. In 1992, it started servicing corporations for their advertising, creative and media requirements. Clients include Knight-Ridder Financial Information, Telerate Dow Jones, Inc., New York Bay Remittance, the Philippine National Bank, LBC USA, and Metrobank-NY. It also handled the Filipino media requirements of Miss Saigon.

In 1994, the company ventured and added entertainment promotions to its operations and presented blockbuster concerts and events blending the elements of cultural festival and international trade shows. To date, Special Edition Press , Inc. organizes the largest gathering of Filipino Americans on the east coast with its annual PHILIPPINE FIESTA SA AMERIKA event, a blend of trade exhibits featuring exhibitors from the Philippines and the United States and cultural festival/musical extravaganza showcasing Filipino American talents and performers from the Philippines.

Mission Statement

The company aims to be the provider of an avenue for the mainstream business to reach the fast-growing and very strong Filipino American market, and connect the Filipino businesses to the mainstream market in the United States.

Principals

Fernando "Nanding" Mendez, President - Nanding's works as an Art Director have won him many awards both in the Philippines and in United States. He has over 25 years experience as an Art Director. In the Philippines, he worked with the Philippine Advertising Counselors and handled top accounts like SAN MIGUEL BEER (domestic and export), ROYAL TRUORANGE, LEM-O-LIME, MARLBORO, RAMITEX, PLDT and NORITAKE. He also worked as consultant-art director for McCann Erickson and illustrated a special campaign for Coca-Cola Bottling Company. In the U.S., he worked with advertising and publishing companies before he established Special Edition Press, Inc.

Mila Mendez, Executive Vice President for Marketing & Community Relations - Mila's background include over 15 years in research, media planning and marketing. She worked as a Marketing and Media Research Manager at the Philippine Advertising Counselors, Inc. before migrating to the United States. In the U.S. she worked in the International Marketing Department of Knight-Ridder Financial Information handling advertising requirements and then moved on to work as Business Manager at the International Marketing of Telerate, Inc., a subsidiary of Dow Jones Company. She joined the management of Special Edition in 1994 in charge of marketing and operations. In 2000, she was hired by the Bureau of Census as Community Partnership Specialist covering the Filipino American community in the tri-state area, the Asian Indian and the Italian communities in Queens County, NY. Mila is an active community leader and is involved with the Philippine Independence Day Committee in New York City and the Philippine American Friendship Committee in Jersey City, NJ. She sat in the Philippine Pastoral Center Board of Directors for 2 years.
